Gunpowder tea is a form of tea in which each leaf is rolled into small round balls. Its English name comes from the resemblance to the grains of gunpowder. Gunpowder tea leaves wilt, steamed, rolled and then dried. Curling makes the leaves less susceptible to physical damage and breakage and allows them to better retain their flavor and aroma. In addition, it allows some types of oolong teas to age for decades if roasted about them from time to time.
